[0066] 關於瑪黛茶 - 瓜拉尼人的神話故事 (三) 被改編的傳說

★ Tau & Kerana 的故事有另一個版本，這個版本真的很像是被歐洲人改編過的。

在這個版本裡 Tau 並不是神靈，只是個凡人，Kerana 也並不是人類的第三代。他們只是非常平凡的兩個人。

Tau & Kerana 她們原本就是相愛的兩個人，但是卻分屬於兩個不同的部落，而這兩個部落卻是長年在互相征戰，他們的結合原本就是不可能被接受的。

一天夜裡他們兩個決定一起私奔，這種大逆不道的事情讓他們的家人非常生氣，於是祈求天神降下了詛咒在他們身上，以致於他們所生的七個孩子都變成受了詛咒的妖獸。

★關於瑪黛茶的來源，還有一個是基督會自圓其說的版本，這故事在前面瑪黛茶與基督會有提到過。

因為瑪黛茶的功效和它的來源傳說讓這些基督會的教士感到不安，起初全力的排擠這瑪黛茶，但是最後卻得到了反效果，讓他們不得不去接受甚至是推廣了瑪黛茶，但是為了自圓其說，於是乎創造了一個基督教版本瑪黛茶來源的故事。（這個版本也已被當成歷史文件，要搜尋也不大容易。）

故事是這樣說的（從 Yari & Arai 的版本去改編的）

很久很久以前，耶穌(Jesus)和聖約翰(St. John)與聖佩卓(St. Pedro)一起降到了凡間，在全世界執行他們的傳道任務。有一天他來到了一個老印地安人的家，而且他有一個非常純真又漂亮的女兒。

為了款待遠來的訪客，這個老人宰殺了他們家唯一的一隻鵝。隔天耶穌又回到了這個老人的家，告訴這個老人他是上帝的兒子，並且可以應允他的一個願望。

老人說，『這個世界的惡靈佔據了我們的土地以及我們印地安人的心，他只希望他的女兒能夠持續的保持純真又善良。』

耶穌聽完之後將森林中的一株小樹改造之後賜予了這個老人，並告訴他這個樹可以讓人充滿力量智慧與活力。

故事就這樣結束了。（其實這改編版的故事看不出來為什麼耶穌要給老人瑪黛茶，因為老人希望的是他女兒保持純真。實在是很跳TONE的故事。）

所以在當時耶穌會教士在傳教的時候，將瑪黛茶稱為 Missionary Herbs, Yerba Missionera 。也被其他不瞭解瑪黛茶背後故事的人認為是傳教士的藥草。

不只如此，他們還編了一首詩歌 （因為是西班牙文，看不懂。所以先翻成英文）

Santo Tomé (Spanish) = St. Thomas (English) = 聖湯馬士 (Chinese)

這詩歌大概的意思是這樣，聖湯馬士來到了河邊對瓜拉尼人傳道，當地人對他很好，他為巴拉圭與瓜拉尼人祈禱，但耶穌要他到別的地方去傳教，所以得要離開。他又祈福於這巴拉圭的藥草（瑪黛茶），並且期盼再回來。

Santo Tomé iba un día
orillas del Paraguay,

ni la serpiente coral.
Las chontas y motacúes
palmito y sombra le dan;
el abejón le convida

Santo Tomé los bendice

Santo Tomé les responde:
– "Os tengo que abandonar
porque Cristo me ha mandado
otras tierras visitar.

una merced os he de dar,
que es la yerba paraguaya
que por mí bendita está."
Santo Tomé entró en el río,
y en peana de cristal
las aguas se lo llevaron
a las llanuras del mar.
Los indios, de su partida,
no se pueden consolar,
y a Dios siempre están pidiendo
que vuelva Santo Tomé.
